We come from across the 54 states, territories, and the District of Columbia. You represent a rich culture of people, attitudes, ethnicities, beliefs, and individual characteristics that are woven together in what we call the National Guard today. I'm going to discuss three key points: the leader's guide and how to use it, what we mean by pushing on the flywheel, and lastly, the key roles in diversity. So, why is this important? Why are we talking about diversity? I want to share a little story with you. As a young airman, I vividly remember having our annual diversity and EO briefing on a drill weekend. The briefer did the best they could to explain diversity. We were shown charts and graphs and various demographics and were led to understand that diversity was about race, religion, and gender. After the briefing was finished, it was put on the shelf until the next year. There was no further dialogue about diversity. We all got back to the business of training.
